For the past decade my family and I have been spend our summer vacations in a beach house, just outside the city of Ocean Isle Beach, NC. If you are looking for the perfect beach town I highly recommend this area of North Carolina, my family loves the time we spend here. But I'm writing this to also tell you about a great little gem of a winery we discover here named Silver Coast Winery.
One night we were having dinner at our favorite restaurant, Causeway Gourmet. My wife was having the Fennel Rubbed Salmon dinner and a glass of white wine. The name of the wine was Calabash White. Throughout dinner she continually raved how excellent this wine paired with the salmon. She loved this this wine. She was trying to get a bottle of the wine to take back to the beach house because she thought it would go perfect with the crab legs we were playing on making the next night. But the restaurant could not supply us with the bottle.
As were were driving back after dinner we passed a little winery on the right side of the road. I glanced at a sign that read Silver Coast Winery. I looked at my wife and asked, "what winery did that wine bottle of wine you had tonight say on the label?". Of course she couldn't remember, and responded "Something, silver.. I think?"
I asked her jokingly, "Do you want me to make up for all the times I have disappointed you?" Of course she said that would be impossible, "But honey are you going to do that?". Of course she wasn't paying attention to the sign that we just passed that read, Silver Coast Winery. I was fairly positive this must be the winery that made the wine my wife was raving over at dinner. So I pulled over to the side of the road and started heading back towards the winery.
As I turned to head back towards the winery, I was thinking, "Why didn't the waitress just let us know we could get a bottle of the wine right down the road". This thought was actually sort of irritating me, but I digress.
We pulled into the parking lot and I said to my wife, now what does that sign say? "Silver Coast Winery?", she responded. It wasn't registering with her yet. To make a long story short, we went inside and found Silver Coast Winery was indeed the winery responsible for making that perfect wine name, Calabash White that my wife had with her salmon dinner. So we picked up a couple bottles to go with our crab legs we would make tomorrow night. If you're every vacationing near Ocean Isle Beach, NC and love wine, Silver Coast Winery is very much worth checking out.
