The diversity, you can visit a tucked away wine cellar or a winery out in the spacious country. The views these country wineries provide can be breathtaking. Oh and the food. While some bars may have decent food menus, overall the food you can order while sitting at a bar doesn't even come close to the quality of food wineries offer.

Great people, wine, food and landscapes are the main reasons why Texas wineries are becoming more and more popular.

Texas wine history

The wine industry has been present in Texas for nearly 400 years. The industry began in the 1600s, near present day El-Paso Texas. This was when Spanish missionaries started cultivating grapes. Of course there were no official Texas wineries open at this time but Texas wine product started at Spanish missionaries in the 1600's. By the 1800s more european settled in South and Central Texas and started to plant grapevines that they had brough over from their native countries. Then in 1876 a very knowledgable man who was a renowed horticulturist, who specialized in breeding grapes came to live in Texas. His name was Thomas Munson he lived in Denison, Texas and was originally from Illinios. Seven years after Munson moved to Texas the first bonded winery was opened in the state. The name of this winery is "Val Verde Winery" and is still in operation today.
