Having a Whynter wine cooler is a good way to store your wine so that it does not go bad. Wine needs to be kept at a constant temperature so as to avoid oxidization and other things that can cause the wine to go off. In this article we will take a look at a few things that you should keep in mind when you are storing your wine.
Temperature
The temperature is really important when you are storing wine. Your wine needs to be kept at a constant temperature of about 15 or 14 degrees and avoid excessive fluctuation. If your wine is kept somewhere that it excessively hot or even just a temperature of 21 - 25 degrees this can have a vey bad effect on your wine.
What it does is it will actually cook your wine and it will end up tasting like old burnt boiled grapes. When your wine is kept somewhere too hot it actually contracts and this also causes the cork to be sucked into the bottle a little. When the wine is kept somewhere too cold it will freeze and expand.
When your wine expands it pushes the cork out of the bottle and this can again cause air to get inside your wine and make your wine go bad.
Humidity
Humidity also has a major effect on your wine. Especially if your wine is being kept under cork. If your wine is kept in an area that is too dry the cork will ultimately dry out and shrink and this will result in the cork moving up and down inside the bottle. Again when this happens air can get inside your wine and this can cause serious damage to your wine.
A good level for the humidity is about 60%. Anything too high and the corks may develop mold and this is also not very good. If you have a wine cellar it is a good idea to put a bucket or tray of water inside it to keep it at a constant humidity level. Do not use and air conditioner as what this does is sucks the moisture out of the air.
The same goes for keeping wine inside your household fridge. A kitchen refrigerator has a humidity level of 20% whereas a wine cooler like the Whynter wine cooler has a steady humidity level of about 60%. It is also good to keep your wine out of the sunlight and away from UV. The door of the Whynter wine cooler is UV resistant and will not let UV inside the unit.
Having a wine cooler to correctly store your wine is a very good idea.
