One Thing That I Will Not Wear

I have often written about touring the country, speaking at schools. I imagine hundreds of smiling faces looking up at me, eager to hear what I have to say. I also imagine the thank you notes that I would receive after speaking at a school. The students’ messages would likely inspire me, and I would be eager to continue speaking.

For my speaking gigs, I would wear a suit. I would choose a suit because I would want to appear professional. Dressing this way would also encourage me to act professionally, rather than relaxing and becoming too comfortable. On my own time, however, I would dress comfortably. I would wear either jeans or sweat pants.

I like jeans for daily wear, because they are comfortable. If they are blue or black, they go well with any shirt that I choose to wear. Although jeans are comfortable, they are not designed for working out. That is why, when I work out, I frequently choose to work out in sweat pants.

Sweat pants are soft, and they allow for a great deal of movement. They are perfect for running, pilates, crunches, and other exercises I do in the course of a workout. By dressing comfortably, I can get a good workout. I can then focus on my work, stay healthy, and sleep well. Though I like both jeans and sweatpants, I would never wear a pair of pants that combined jeans and sweats, where one leg came from a pair of jeans and the other leg came from a pair of sweatpants. A garment like this would look very strange, and if I wore it, I would get attention that I would not want. Those who saw me would likely laugh, point, and whisper. Rather than wearing strange clothing, I would rather wear normal clothing. By dressing in normal clothing, I will not get strange reactions from others. Instead, I will get smiles and other friendly greetings. I can then relax, be happy, and feel good. When I feel good, I can focus on my goals.

One goal I have is to publish 1000 articles. I am excited to write and publish my thousandth article. I wonder what it will be about, how long it will be, and how many Twitter followers I will have at that point. Reaching my thousandth article is not the only goal I have, however.

Another goal I have is to lose a bit of weight. I do not need to lose much—maybe five pounds at most. I am petite, so losing a bit of weight would not hurt and would likely help. I would be more energetic, and with more energy, I could do more.

I would be open to wearing uniquely designed pieces of clothing, provided that they fit properly and they looked good on me. However, I do not plan to ever wear a pair of pants that are half jeans and half sweats. That is where I draw the line.
