When I was going to my community college, I wanted to transfer to Cal State Long Beach and major in Biology. I had been planning to transfer when I found out I was pregnant. At an instant, I had a plan that disappeared. Instead, I became a pharmacy technician and have been that since. Not all stay at home had planned to become just that. Usually for stay at home moms, we had plans, but sacrificed a career to be just that: a mom.
Being at home 24/7 takes a lot of patience. Often you may have no help, no breaks, and sometimes get lonely. After 2 years of staying at home, I wanted to be productive. Don't get me wrong, cleaning, taking care of children, and running errands is work, but I wanted something more.
School or work?
That is what I pondered for some time. Instead, I decided to do both. After all, why not? There are many universities that offer online classes and accreditation is the biggest part in making sure it's a legitimate school. Now I'm studying at American Public University that is both national and regional accredited. That is a key stepping stone for me because when all of my children start school, I will have my Bachelors degree tucked under my belt.
What about working online? I started blogging. Many stay at home moms want to work from home, but aren't realistic about it.
- don't want to call people
- don't want to bug their family and friends
- don't want to sell anything
- don't want to email anyone
- don't want to make their own website
- don't want to write
- don't want to make things
- don't want to do surveys
- don't want to do affiliated marketing
If you don't want to do anything then what are you left with? NOTHING! I realized that the hard way. I didn't want to 'bug' anyone, so instead I decided to provide information that people want. Other moms want to know what they can do at home. Others want to learn about starting a business at home. Some even want to learn how to make their own items. I've heard other mother's say, "Well, you can't really make a lot of money off of that." People who work at home are really trying and are actually earning money. It may not be a quick way to riches, but it's better than doing nothing. Once reality hits, that you want to do something and are willing to at least try. -Start doing your research-
Moms can work at home, but you have to make sure you are doing the right thing that suits you and your family.
If you haven't started, you haven't tried.
I am a stay at home mom that works online and goes to school online. Both are legitimate and I am proud to say that. I am proof that just because you are a stay at home mom, doesn't mean you can't pursue your future. Now go and grasp it.
Good article and very inspiring. You are very busy. Best wishes to you.
