Factors To Consider When To Begin Losing Pregnancy Weight

Many women ask the question when should I begin losing pregnancy weight? Weight loss after a pregnancy is not much different from any other type of weight loss but you should make yourself aware of a few key differences which will help you decide when is the best time for you to start working out and dieting.

It is important to note that you should always talk to your doctor before staring a workout routing and dieting program. This is especially important when trying to lose weight after pregnancy.

One of the biggest factors that will determine when you can start losing pregnancy weight is whether you were active and in shape prior to getting pregnant. Your level of activity during your pregnancy also has an effect on when is the best time to start. If you were in shape and actively working out then your body may be able to recover and get in shape faster than someone who will begin to workout for the first time.

If you are starting to workout for the first time after childbirth then please take care to not injure yourself or over exert yourself. If you feel dizzy, weak, or in pain then stop what you are doing. You may injure yourself which will hinder your ability to lose pregnancy weight.

There are some women who are advised by their physician to stay on bed rest toward the end of their pregnancy. These women should be aware that it may take some more time for their bodies to recover or get back into shape.

Another issue to consider when losing pregnancy weight is whether you gave birth naturally or via c-section.

Although c-sections have become a lot more common for a variety of reasons, many women do not realize that it is a major surgery. The surgeon has to cut through many layers of skin and muscle and ultimately cut the uterus. Your recovery time for a c-section is greater than a natural birth. It is recommended that you wait at least 3 months before working out following a c-section delivery. At this point your abdominal muscles should be healed to the point where you can begin to work on core exercises to strengthen your midsection.

If you delivered naturally then you can probably begin to workout after 2 months. Again your level of activity will depend on your level of fitness before your pregnancy and your overall health. Double check with your physician before renewing your gym membership.

Don't overdo it at first. Slowly get back into your new routine and begin living a your new healthy lifestyle with your baby. Many mothers find that they have plenty of opportunities with their baby to do some light exercise. Whether it be strolling the baby around a park or taking care of the daily responsibilities of being a new mom.

Losing pregnancy weight is not something that will happen overnight but if you can stay healthy and start on the right foot then you will be well on your way to getting your body back.
