Most women experiencing fibroids often have to deal with the issue of gaining excessive weight. This is usually very depressing, but before we tackle the relationship between it and weight gain, it is important to know exactly what a fibroid is.
It is a swelling or hemorrhage which develops in the female reproductive tract. This swelling often occur in the uterus and are normally painless. Although the cause of the inflammation is not yet known, many medical experts relate its occurrence to high levels of the estrogen in the female reproductive system.
Others believe that rapid weight gain favors the growth of the fibroid. Having some extra pounds does not necessarily mean that a mother have the swelling. A good number of plus size women are quite healthy. It is however important to note that chances of a fat woman having it are higher compared to the slim one.
During pregnancy a great number of women tend to put on some weight. Research shows that a number of them have fibroids when they are expecting a child. This is what brought about the connection between these two conditions.
Women tend to gain weight during pregnancy. This is because of the increase in the amount of the estrogen hormone produced to form the pregnancy. When this particular hormone is in excess, the mother is likely to have hemorrhage in the uterus.
When a mother approaches menopause, the level of estrogen produced by the female reproductive organ reduces greatly making the swelling to disappear. How do you know if the weight gain you are experiencing is from the fibroid in your reproductive system?
Watch for the following signs:
- Weight gain often occurs around the abdomen
- One looks as if they are pregnant and yet they are not
- Frequent constipation
- Pain in the pelvic area primarily caused by the pressure applied on the area by the swelling
- Regular urination
- Heavy menstrual bleeding
These are some of the signs to watch for, however it is important to know that it is avoidable by eating and staying healthy. This means that one should stay away from fatty foods which increase cholesterol levels leading to rapid weight gain. Foods such as carbohydrates, sugar and dairy products if taken in large quantities could lead to increase in weight gain which in turn brings about fibroids.
It is also wise for women to keep fit. One doesn’t have to enroll in expensive gyms and spas to keep fit. All one needs is to take a walk, exercise regularly, take plenty of fruits and fresh water.
Thanks for sharing! Being fit seems to help with a lot of things. And the opposite seems to be connected with many ills.
