Did you know that pregnancy success rate and your ovulation cycle are linked? Timing of your pregnancy endeavors together with your ovulation will increase your chances of getting pregnant. Although there may be many reasons why you cant get pregnant it may just boil down to a matter of timing.
So what is ovulation exactly? Ovulation is when a ripe egg is released from the ovaries of a woman around day 14 of her menstrual cycle. The egg then journeys for 5 days down the Fallopian tubes and with luck will meet up with a sperm cell and become fertilized before either of the egg or sperm degenerates to a state where a pregnancy is not viable anymore. The movement of the egg through the Fallopian tube causes the hormone progesterone to be released which creates the ideal conditions for conception. If fertilization occurs then the egg will make its way into the uterus where it will be impregnated in the uterine walls and develop as a fetus.
The ovulation cycle begins with the release of an egg and finishes with the onset of menstruation. The fertile period for most women is the 5 days that the egg has been released and moves down the Fallopian tubes. It stands to reason then that your chances of getting pregnant are greatest during this time. If fertilization fails to take place then the egg passes through the uterus and is flushed from the body during menses. This is when the whole cycle starts all over again.
During ovulation certain things start to happen which may serve as indicators that you are going into ovulation. 1. Women may feel more inclined to want to have sex. This is a natural response brought about by our primal instinct to reproduce. 2.There is a small rise in body basal temperature of between 0.5 degrees to 1.5 degrees F which indicates that ovulation is taking place. The chances of getting pregnant are now at the optimal level. 3. Cervical mucous discharges start to become apparent and the mucous turns to a clear color when ovulating. The mucous assists the sperm to travel up the uterus to the egg.
For many women the timing of sex with the release of the egg during ovulation is adequate to increase their chances of getting pregnant. This is dependent on a few factors. You have to know exactly when your menstrual cycle starts, in order to calculate when your ovulation day is likely to be. There are calculators available on-line that can help you with determining when you will begin to ovulate. You also need to be ready to have sex for 3 - 5 days in a row so that the sperm can be available at the precise moment to meet the egg in order to be successful. So if you follow the advice and so long as you are mostly healthy, with no weight problems or other underlying medical conditions you should be able to increase your chances of getting pregnant.
