Natural treatments for perimenopause is the preferred method of dealing with the sometimes life impacting symptoms of perimenopause. No it’s not a disease although some women feel as though it is. However, it can be debilitating if you let it.

Perimenopause is not premenstrual syndrome (PMS) on steroids although (PMS) and perimenopause (the period in a woman’s life when her body is transitioning to the menopause stage) have some similar symptoms.

Most women experiencing PMS have some changes in their emotional and physical state of being, which starts after ovulation occurs and ends once menstrual flowing starts. For some women they become irritable while others become down or depressed. Some women experience anger while others tend to become sad. As you know, although the experience is unpleasant for most women, the changes they go through can be totally different.

For a more severe case of PMS it would be called PMDD or premenstrual dysphoric disorder and is considered more severe because the woman’s life tends to be disrupted. PMDD can actually negatively affect relationships and life because of the mood swings and other behavioral changes women experience.

So what about Perimenopause?

Again, perimenopause is the transition period during which a woman’s body is getting itself prepared for menopause. It can be a quick transition but for most women it can range from 2 to 8 years. Are there natural treatments for perimenopause to make this transition easier? Yes!

Listed below, are some of the symptoms women experience, when dealing with perimenopause. Please keep in mind that this isn’t an exhaustive list but rather some of the more common ones. Also, it’s important to note that not all women experience these symptoms for the same amount of time.

  • Trouble sleeping, due to night sweats and hot flashes
  • Vaginal dryness and discomfort as a result of reduced estrogen production
  • Mood changes
  • Menstrual irregularities – time between menstrual cycles could be longer or shorter and you could also miss some periods
  • Experiencing hot flashes, which affects about 65% of the women dealing with perimenopause and a big driver for women seeking natural treatments for perimenopause
  • Breast tenderness
  • Headaches experienced more frequently
  • Fatigue and periods of exhaustion
  • Bladder problems and a need to urinate more frequently

Natural Treatments For Perimenopause

There are some medical treatments that your doctor can prescribe for you to help you deal with some of the more difficult symptoms of perimenopause. For example, some doctors might prescribe oral contraceptives to help you deal with your perimenopause symptoms like hot flashes and other changes your body is undergoing. Although, this doesn’t meet my definition of natural treatments for perimenopause, please check with your doctor for more details on the pluses and minuses.

Steps for regaining control dealing with perimenopause

Please keep in mind that what you are experiencing is normal and will end when menopause begins. There are options for you regarding perimenopause treatments and I hope this information has been helpful in your quest to regain control of your body and life.
