Today I was on Chat and there came on a new user who began boasting how he was at work and had come on there to chat. I knew exactly what was up, probably by intuition.
"Ah" he said, "I'm in a cubicle. Nobody can see me."
This Article is all about how to get fired from your job using the Internet in ways you shouldn't! It has a humourous tone, but is serious at the same time.
I Hate Employment, BUT... I Still Give My Employer My Best!
This means, using company computers for company interests, not for chat rooms, video games, personal email, online training. There is a time and place for all that. Remember, Your employer hiring you and you accepting the hiring is a business transaction!
Going against company policies lying, cheating and stealing is disrespectful. There's right ways and wrong ways to deal with things we hate. This is true for employment as well...
Folks who are disengaged with their jobs take it out on the companies they work for. That drives up prices for those who don't deserve the price hikes.
Go On Facebook During Work Hours and Slam the Boss
I never went on Facebook during work hours, but I have written things about my boss. I went on Facebook and wrote about being "psychologically unemployable." I wrote about it in far more detail, including what I thought of the boss on a website, which was linked to from Facebook!
One of my boss' relatives was on my friend list! Two days after I wrote the post on Facebook, I went to work. The boss called me into his office and told me to close the door, I had some explaining to do! In spite of my defining what "psychologically unemployable" meant, the website with the damning information on it was promptly produced next. That was the last time I set foot inside that place...
Play Video Games During Work Hours
I worked in a photocopier repair facility. One day, I could hear Tetris music playing. It went on for several minutes and was quite loud. Every so often, the sound of beating a level could be heard. Surprisingly, nobody said anything.
Suddenly, Sam, the company owner showed up.? He was walking quite briskly toward the sounds. They suddenly stopped before he got there!? Sam was quite tall and clandestine video game player saw him coming...
"Who gave YOU permission to play VIDEO GAMES on MY TIME!"
"I wasn't..."
He failed to push the headphone plug all the way into the jack!? It was his last day!
Do Job Searches When at Your Desk at Work!
One of the secretaries at the same place wrote an email to one of the other co-workers in the typewriter department downstairs. She was upset because she wasn't allowed to have a plant on her desk. She brought it in and Sam reprimanded her to take it home.
She accidentally selected, "reply-all." The email went company-wide! She didn't have nice words about her supervisor nor Sam, whom she hated.
It wasn't the email she had been fired for...
She had been job-hunting all morning at her desk instead of doing her job and the company's tracking software caught it all. Nobody would have known had she not written that email and revealed all!
Hate Your Job? At Least Be Diplomatic
The very best way to go about email, Facebook, even video games, and anything else outside of work-related duties, is to get permission! Otherwise, these are best done at home. Above all, be careful what you say, on or off the job, especially on places like Facebook! It CAN cost you your job!
Sam was a pretty nice guy! He loved the RPG games of that day! Doing email at work was also tolerated if one didn't make a habit of it, nonetheless, job-hunting on company time is a conflict of interests!
Do you hate your job? There are ways to go about this properly. In a recent blog post, I point out ways to deal with the issue. The worst thing you can do in a job you hate is to steal and cheat when on the job. It is an epidemic and the company usually doesn't get hurt by it, except immediate losses, everybody does.
Something to think about ye who do this and complain about the rising cost of things!
It`s so easy to think of the internet as your own private space but it is getting more and more connected by the day! Personally, if I really have something important to say, I will use the phone. Nowadays phone calls are so rare we suspect the worst when they ring lol.
