Keyword Density And Keyword Stuffing

Keyword density as we all know is the given amount of times that a keyword is given within a given amount of words. “Keyword stuffing” is entering terms and keywords associated with your business in the company name field (for example “Smile Dental Care - Brightest Teeth in Smile Ville”) or excessively repeating these words and phrases in paragraphs and descriptions in an article or webpage with the pure intent or should I say -in an attempt- to acquire more visibility and ranking. This may be acceptable if you are constantly repeating a model number perhaps, but now a day, long tail keywords or phrases are used and most would look very unprofessional to prospective clients to see a phrase constantly, and it might even lower your website’s ranking in search engines if you do it in an attempt to get more rankings by keyword stuffing. Overall, this strategy is flawed, amateurish and likely to backfire. Keyword density has changed.

Try to keep it at approximately 1-2% keyword density in articles and webpages, and closer to the lower end of that. Keep this in mind and think about this for a moment, and calculate in your head, every 100 words or so is approximately one paragraph. If you had more than one or two keyword PHRASES in that paragraph it would most likely look odd, may not make sense, and be overbearing if you have seen it in (overheard it in your head over and over again and again as you read it over and over again and again – get the point?) just about every other sentence.

I try and rank on high search/low competition keyword phrases and some tend to be quite long, so these keyword phrases would look rather odd and would be a detriment to my article or webpage if repeated constantly as it would be with keyword stuffing, so watch keyword density for this very fact.

Currently, people are using more and more detailed ‘questions’ in the search field and these are long tail keywords or keyword phrases. These are the keywords and phrases we Internet Marketers need to focus on for success and a lot of these longer phrases would be repetitive if you try to use keyword stuffing to get better rankings, in most occasions.

Read your own work carefully. Does it read well? Do the keyword(s) flow smoothly? Are there too many in that paragraph or area of the webpage or article? Think like your reader would, and give yourself some good constructive criticism. That will help immensely if your reader actually enjoys what they are reading after all!
