Yesterday was a sad day for many, and especially for the family. Author Stephen R. Covey died from complications from a bicycle accident back in April.
Dr. Covey meant a lot to me, for several different reasons. His self help information was considered a pioneering effort, and it helped countless people become more productive, and live happier lives. Most people knew about Dr. Covey from his book "7 Habits of Highly Effective People." I am particularly interested in bettering myself, and his information and self-help genre has been highly influential in my life, as well as many millions more the world over.
Another reason for my interest in this famous gentleman is kind of personal. We share the same first name, Stephen, and his last name, Covey, is the name of my best friend. This is how I heard of, and became interested in, what he had to offer. A random search of my name, and also my friend's search of his own name, brought up a lot of information about Stephen R. Covey. So, you can see how he could have a place in my heart, and my life.
He suffered a bike crash in April when he lost control of the bike, and he was knocked unconscious. He was wearing a helmet, and at the time, doctors didn't see any long term damage to his head or brain. These complications arose recently, and surrounded by loving family, lost his battle Monday.
Dr. Covey was a great motivational speaker, and helped countless individuals, and even corporations, be more productive, and better people overall. His "7 Habits" book was geared towards getting people more productive. According to him, he did not invent these habits, and informed the reader that these habits have been around since the beginning of civilization. He did bring this system that and approach to life in his books, and these habits worked for personal and and the business world alike. He was co founder of the Utah-Based professional services and consulting company, FranklinCovey. He continued his self help and consulting profession there. The learning and self help genre lost a great author, and he will be greatly missed.
His influence will still be heard, and his legacy will not be lost, as his words will continue to help thousands throughout the business and personal world. His books will continue to continue to help to mature people and to create drive in people. He will be missed, but he will not be forgotten.
